Alexandra and Brandon met through a classic Mormon scenario - sitting next to each other at Devotional.
Okay, so that's not entirely how things happened, but close enough. Alexandra (or Alexa) had been coming to Stadium
Singing for a semester at BYU-Idaho which Brandon was then the Director over. She often stood in the very front right
below Brandon and her and her friends were criticized as being the "loud obnoxious group" and to a point they
were. If it weren’t for that, well then a lot of the rest of the story wouldn’t have taken place.
Fast forward to January 26, 2010 where Brandon and Alexa are standing outside the Hart gym waiting to enter for that
day's Devotional. Keep in mind though that this was not any normal Devotional. They were standing outside because
they had front center section seats to a Devotional offered by Elder Russell M. Nelson of the Quorum of the Twelve
Apostles. As they were waiting to get in, Brandon recognized Alexa as one of the girls from Stadium Singing and they
started talking and getting to know each other. When the doors opened to devotional they ended up being the first ones
in and both got the front row seats in the very center section! Afterwards, because of Brandon’s connections
with the head of campus security who was also the Stake Executive Secretary, they both got to meet Elder Nelson.
After that a back and forth friendship began to form. Between the subzero conversations on the steps in front of the
temple to the visits by , to the temple where Brandon worked on Saturday mornings in the Baptistry to the late-night
conversations, a solid friendship developed and a love began to bloom between the two.(Alexa maintains that she only
went to the temple on Saturday mornings because that was her only free time available, yet coincidentally it always
seemed to be at the same time that Brandon was working there... )
In April 2010 Alexa returned home to Washington state, but their relationship continued to grow. Brandon finished his
final semester of college in July 2010 earning his B.S. in Computer Information Technology. He then returned "
home" to Dayton, Ohio. (Being the son of a military retiree, there wasn’t anywhere that Brandon really
considered "home" per se.)
Finally on November 12, 2010, Brandon had the courage to get down on bended knee (which was no easy feat for him on a
bad knee) and pop the question in Kirtland, OH while Alexa was out on a surprise visit to Brandon for his birthday.
Little did she know that a surprise was soon destined for her. She had never been to Kirtland, and Brandon thought that
it would be the perfect locale to propose to his future bride. Alexa happily recounts that she had no idea that the
proposal was coming when it did, but that looking back it made sense because she couldn’t figure out why Brandon
wouldn’t take off his leather jacket in nearly seventy degree weather!
Brandon and Alexa will be married October 15th, 2011 in the Rexburg Idaho Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day
Saints. After their marriage, Alexa and Brandon will remain in Ohio. Brandon was just
recently offered a position with KLSS as a System Operator and Alexa plans to officially transfer to Wright State University and finish
her pursuit of her Bachelor’s degree in Math Education.
